Section 1: Threshold
Selecting the Correct Riser

1 Selecting the Correct Riser
Haven needs a specific threshold for it to work properly. Haven is .8 inches (2 cm) high when in the unlocked position. When it is locked it is 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) high.
Haven needs to make solid contact with at least .25 inches (6.35 mm) of your door. So your threshold has to be higher than .8 inches (2 cm) but not bigger than 1.25 inches (31.75 mm).
That is the Haven sweet spot. If your threshold is less than .8 inches (2 cm), you are in the wrong classroom. Head over to Module 1B-1 Shortening Your Door. Don’t worry, it sounds a lot harder than it is. You are in the right spot if your threshold is greater than 1.25 inches (31.75 mm). This means Haven will not make contact with your door when it is locked or it will make contact with less than .25 inches (6.35 mm).
If you have an adjustable threshold, we recommend raising the height of the threshold to its highest level that doesn't impede the opening and closing of the door.

2 Selecting the Correct Riser Configuration
In order to make Haven work for you, you will need to install risers. Risers will help Haven reach the right height. Risers are .111 inches (2.819mm) in height. You will be able to stack them so that your Haven is the right height.
Let's figure out how many risers you will need...

4Measuring Your Threshold
Use a tape measure to figure out the exact length of your floor to your door. Measure from the middle of your door to the floor.
In order to find the right length for your screws or anchors, you need to remember one main concept. The screws must go at least one inch into your subfloor, whether it be hardwood or concrete.
If you have an adjustable threshold, we recommend raising the height of the threshold to its highest level that doesn't impede the opening and closing of the door.
Take the height of risers you require to properly fit Haven to your door threshold. Add that to the 2 inch screw requirement for a normal install. So if you have a requirement of .75 inches (19 mm) of riser that means you will need screw or anchors that are 2 inches (50.8 mm) (normal install) plus .75 inches (19 mm) (risers) or 2.75 inches (7 cm).

5How Many Risers Do you Need?
Risers are .111 inches (2.819 mm) in height. Take your Riser Height Requirement and figure out how many risers you will need by dividing that number by the height of the riser (.111 inches (2.819 mm)).
So if my riser requirement is .75 inches (19 mm), I will need 7x risers to hit my riser requirement with a little over–which is fine. You want to get as close as possible to your requirement without going under.
For example, If your Riser Height Requirement is .6 inches (15 mm), you want divide 0.6 by 0.111, which is about 5.5, meaning you will need 6 risers. This will be over your requirement a bit but that is ok. You want to be over, not under.
The one thing to remember is that you shouldn’t be under the riser requirement but you should not go over a lot either. That may cause your lock to be in the way of your door even when it is unlocked.

6Weatherizing the Gaps
Weatherizing the gaps between your riser and floor as well as your Haven unit is advised if your Haven will be in an area that gets of lot of moisture. For instance, if you live in an area that gets snowfall, you should use a proxy or sealant to prevent the moisture from getting in the cracks.
