Now that your HAVEN is placed in the correct position on your floor, and the tape has adhered, it is time to use the install screws provided in the box to secure HAVEN to the floor. The installs screws included in the box are #10 1 x 3/4 inch stainless steel screws. These screws are ONLY for installing HAVEN into a hardwood floor or subfloor. If you have a different sub floor than hardwood, we strongly suggest stopping the install here and looking at our Concrete install instructions.
If you do have a Hardwood subfloor, take one of your install screws and line it up to be screwed in one of the outer drilled pilot holes. You want to install the two screws on the outside. If you are using more than two screws, use alternating sides working your way towards the center of the unit: Far left, Far right, Far Left, Far Right.
Use a power drill to firmly screw the install screw into the drilled hole. Make sure to keep the screw straight as you drill down. Go slowly. Drill the screw so that it is tight against the bottom of the unit and then stop. Do not over tighten as this will cause damage to the unit.
After you have installed Haven, you have the option of weatherizing the unit so that it last many years. We would advise that you take the extra time and resources to do so. Haven has been design to withstand a ton of punishment, but that doesn’t mean the area surrounding Haven will be able to survive years of use, especially in a moisture-heavy environment like a front door threshold.
The primary enemy for Haven and your front door area is Moisture. We need to make sure any gaps in the flooring are filled so no moisture can get into your subfloor. Moisture can cause warping and will degrade the strengths of your flooring. In other words, moisture is very bad.
In addition to protecting your floor and subfloor, we will also walk through protecting your Haven lock itself from excessive moisture and salt (for all you snowbirds).
