Finishing Installation

1 Replace the Locking Gate Cover

Now that your HAVEN is secured to the floor, you will need to replace the locking gate cover. Press the foot pedal on right side of the unit to lift the locking gate up. Open your door.

You now should be able to screw back in the lock gate cover. Screw in the small gate screws just enough so they are tight. Do not over tighten as this will crack the screw holes in the gate.

2 Make sure your HAVEN is installed correctly.

  • Are the sides/wingtips of your HAVEN flush with the floor?

If the sides/wingtips of your unit raise off the ground they will need to be anchored to your floor. This is due to your floor being uneven across a portion of the installation. We recommend that you use strong, thin double sided tape (found at Lowes) to hold the wingtips down. GORILLA 1-in W x 5-ft Two-Sided Tape (Item # 747925 Model # 606501)

Cut the tape to a small, 1x2 inch square and slip it under each wing tip. Once secured this will solve the issue and will not affect the strength of the unit. When installing the tape, it may be necessary to remove the install screws that you anchored into the floor to allow for you to install the tape in the wing tips. Do not lift the wingtip aggressively or force it off the ground as this may bend the steel base plate creating additional issues. Once you have the tape installed it may be necessary to place a heavy object on the wingtip to allow the tape to cure for a period of time. Refasten the screws you used to secure the baseplate to the floor and reinstall the gate. If this step isn't taken, the wingtips could come into contact with the door during an opening sequence, causing damage, or preventing the door from opening.

  • In the unlocked position, does your door open and close freely?

If no, you make not have cut your door to the appropriate height, or did not cut enough from the base. Please revisit Lesson 1-4: Shortening Door. If the door hits either side of your HAVEN, your could have an uneven floor, causing the wingtips of the HAVEN to rub or make contact when in the unlocked position. Use the steps detailed in question 1 above to remedy any unbalanced portions of your lock.

  • In the locked position, does the HAVEN lock gate make contact with at least 0.25 inches (6.35mm) of your door?

If no, you may need to install a riser to get it up to the correct height in order to make the required contact with your door, which ensures the maximum efficiency of your lock. Go back to Lesson 1-1: Selecting the Correct Riser and Lesson 1-2: Install A Riser to get your HAVEN up the right height.

  • Are you able to lock and unlock your HAVEN using just your foot?

If no, the best way to activate HAVEN is by stepping on the foot pedal with the majority of pressure applied in the upper left corner of the foot pedal. The pedal is designed to operate with 7-9lbs of force. The upper left quadrant of the pedal provides the best location for force to be applied to activate the lock. We designed the product so it couldn't be inadvertently activated by a dog or a child. For an adult, press firmly with your foot in a downward motion with the tip of your foot in the pedal's upper quadrant. It may take a few attempts, but once you get the hang of it you won't even think twice about it.
